There are several types of heat pumps, and the main division relates to the energy source used by the pump. Each of the commonly used devices can be assigned to one of the following categories:
- air pumps – the source of energy is the air outside the building in which the device is located;
- Ground pumps – heat is extracted from the ground;
- water pumps – groundwater is used as the energy source.
The most common choice is the air heat pump, due to the simplicity of installation and operation. In the case of ground- and water-based units, excavation is required, which increases the level of difficulty of the process and increases the cost.
